Wharton MBA's Driver Into Golf and Computer Market

San Francisco, CA-January 2000--Platinum Concepts, Inc. manufactures and markets MouseDriver™, a unique and patented computer mouse shaped as the head of a driver golf club.

Developed by students and professors at The Wharton School of Business, MouseDriver is the ultimate gift for the computer minded golfer. The product requires no software and functions as a standard (PS/2) computer mouse.

The unique, patented design was the brainchild of Kyle Harrison, President, Platinum Concepts. Using the patent as the basis for many classroom projects, Harrison utilized Wharton classmates, professors and resources to further refine the concept. In early 1999, while still in school, he founded Platinum Concepts with classmate John Lusk to develop and market MouseDriver. Upon graduation in May 1999, the two moved the company to San Francisco and began executing their product launch strategy.

John Lusk, Vice-President of Marketing and Wharton graduate commented, "Most of our classmates entered the sexier industries of investment banking, consulting and electronic commerce. With the majority of MBA's focusing on those industries, we felt that opportunities in other markets were being left wide open." He added, "Our goal was to avoid the masses and turn a classroom assignment into a successful business. Starting a grass roots company has been extremely educational and having your product accepted in the market is very gratifying." In fact, Harrison and Lusk were recently invited back to Wharton to serve as guest lecturers in an entrepreneurial marketing class; an experience both found rewarding.

The initial PR and test marketing has been tremendously successful with corporate accounts such as Bank of America and PaineWebber reordering units to use as a branded promotional item. The impact from the golf industry media has also been overwhelming, and has led to sales to pro shops, major specialty golf stores and on-line golf retailers. With these initial successes under its belt, Platinum Concepts is now preparing for its official launch of MouseDriver at the 2000 PGA Merchandise Show (Booth #1086) in February.

The suggested retail price for the MouseDriver is $29.95.
